Set up a dedicated concierge display or kiosk
A dedicated concierge display lets visitors join the queue the moment they arrive, without a staff member. It works by showing a QR code that opens a mobile site containing only a Join the queue option, so the visitor lands on the join form straight away. Set-up takes a few minutes in HQ Admin and has 2 parts.
Before you begin
- An HQ Admin account with the Admin role.
- Queueing enabled for the platform and the store — see Enable virtual store queueing.
- A display registered at the store — see Register a new display or device. No campaign may be active on this display: the automatic redirect only works when nothing is playing.
- QR Control enabled for the platform — see Enable QR Control and set the default QR code settings.
Part 1 — Create a single-item mobile site template
- In the left navigation of HQ Admin, select Platform Admin.
- Under Enabled Features, select Mobile Store Sites.
- Select Add New Template.
- Enter a Template Name, for example
Concierge Kiosk. - Select Add Menu Item.
- Choose the pre-configured Join the queue menu item.
- Check the item's settings, then select Save.
- Select Save Changes.
Add no other menu items. The template redirects automatically only when it has a single menu item: the page notes Where only a Single Menu Option/URL has been defined, the Defined URL will be loaded by Default.
The full template procedure is in Create a mobile site template for a concierge kiosk.
Part 2 — Assign the template to the display and enable QR Control
- In the left navigation, select Displays & Devices.
- Select the display that will act as the kiosk.
- On Display Details, rename the display to reflect its role, for example
ConciergeorStore Entrance, then select Save Changes. - Select the Enabled Features tab.
- Tick Enable QR Control.
- Set Size, Qr Code Colour and Connected Icon/Logo Colour so the code is large and readable from where visitors stand.
- In QR Control - Mobile Site Template, choose the template from Part 1.
- Select Save Changes.
Verify it worked
The display shows a QR code. Scanning it with a phone opens the join-the-queue form directly, and completing the form adds the visitor to the store's Waiting view in Retail Admin.
Troubleshooting
Scanning the code shows a menu instead of the join form
Cause. The template has more than 1 menu item, or a campaign is active on the display.
Fix. Remove the extra menu items from the template, and clear Active Campaigns on the display's Display Details tab.
