Targeting rules decide where and for whom a campaign is eligible to play. You define 1 set of rules on the campaign's Targeting tab, and it applies to every touch-point the campaign is enabled on. Rules can use stores, zones, individual displays, queue data, staff on shift, or an identified visitor's profile.

Before you begin

  • A campaign with its creative in place.
  • The data you want to target on already defined: store segments, display tags, reason-for-visit categories or staff languages. The Localise campaigns articles cover each one.

Steps

  1. In the left navigation, select Campaigns, then select the campaign name.
  2. Select the Targeting tab. Existing rules are listed under DEFINED CAMPAIGN TARGETING RULES.
  3. Select Add New "AND" Condition. A condition group appears with 1 row of 4 selects.
  4. In the first select, choose the data source — for example Store / Location Data, Queueing / Aggregate Visitor Data or Visitor / Customer Data.
  5. In the second select, choose the variable — for example Fixed Store Segments, Display Tag(s), Reason for Visit (Aggregate) or Gender.
  6. In the third select, choose the operator — for example includes selected, excludes selected, equal or greater than.
  7. In the fourth select, choose the value or values to match.
  8. To add an alternative that also satisfies this group, select Add new "OR" Condition inside the group. To add a further requirement, select Add New "AND" Condition again.
  9. Select Save Changes.

How the rules combine

  • Rows inside a group are joined with OR: the group matches when any row matches.
  • Groups are joined with AND: every group has to match before the campaign plays.
  • The trash icon on a row removes it.

For example, 1 group with Fixed Store Segments includes selected Metro and a second group with Display Tag(s) includes selected Food Court plays only on food-court displays in metro stores.

Override the campaign that is playing

By default a matched campaign joins the display's rotation. Turn on Override current campaign at the top right of the Targeting tab to have it interrupt whatever is playing the moment its rules match. That is the usual choice for rules that respond to a passer-by or a queue.

Triggered campaigns show a read-only QR CONTROL INTERACTION group on this tab. It is created by the platform when a visitor can trigger the campaign from a QR code and is not edited here.

Verify it worked

The rules stay listed under DEFINED CAMPAIGN TARGETING RULES after you reopen the tab. Once the campaign is activated and a rule matches on a display, that display's Campaign Playback tab records the play with the rule in its Matched Rule column.

Troubleshooting

The campaign plays everywhere

Cause. The rules were not saved, or the campaign has no rules and no schedule.

Fix. Reopen the Targeting tab, check the rules are listed, and select Save Changes after any edit.

The campaign never plays

Cause. Two groups contradict each other, or the value being matched is not assigned anywhere — for example a store segment no store carries.

Fix. Check each group in turn, then check the store or display carries the segment or tag the rule expects.
