Personalisation Hub uses your organisation's own Google Maps API key to look up store names and addresses in Google Places when you add or edit a store. Saving the key takes about 2 minutes; creating it in Google Cloud takes longer if your organisation does not have one yet.

Before you begin

  • An HQ Admin account with the Admin role.
  • A Google Maps API key created in your organisation's Google Cloud project. Google's guide Use API keys with the Places API describes how to create one.
  • If you entered the key during installation, it is already saved and you can skip to Verify it worked.

Steps

  1. In the left navigation, select Platform Admin.
  2. Under Enabled Features, select Google Maps/Places.
  3. Paste your organisation's key into Google Maps API Key.
  4. Select Save Changes.
The key is used server-side for the address search only. Store data itself is held in the platform and, if you connect it, kept in step with Google Business Profile.

Verify it worked

  1. In the left navigation, select Stores / Branches.
  2. Select Add New Store(s).
  3. Select Find Address.
  4. Enter one of your store's business names or addresses.

If results from Google appear, the key is working.

  5. Select Cancel to close the dialog without adding a store.

Troubleshooting

The search returns no results

Cause. The key was mistyped, or it is restricted in Google Cloud so that the Places API cannot use it.

Fix. Check the key's API restrictions in Google Cloud, save it again and retry. See Adding a store finds nothing in Google Places.
