Personalisation Hub uses your organisation's own Google Maps API key to look up store names and addresses in Google Places when you add or edit a store. Saving the key takes about 2 minutes; creating it in Google Cloud takes longer if your organisation does not have one yet.

## Before you begin

- An HQ Admin account with the Admin role.
- A Google Maps API key created in your organisation's Google Cloud project. Google's guide [Use API keys with the Places API](https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/places/web-service/get-api-key) describes how to create one.
- If you entered the key during installation, it is already saved and you can skip to **Verify it worked**.

## Steps

1. In the left navigation, select **Platform Admin**.
2. Under **Enabled Features**, select **Google Maps/Places**.
3. Paste your organisation's key into **Google Maps API Key**.
4. Select **Save Changes**.

> **Note:** The key is used server-side for the address search only. Store data itself is held in the platform and, if you connect it, kept in step with [Google Business Profile](https://personalisationhub.com/support-centre/integrations-and-3rd-party-guides/connect-the-platform-to-google-business-profile/).

## Verify it worked

1. In the left navigation, select **Stores / Branches**.
2. Select **Add New Store(s)**.
3. Select **Find Address**.
4. Enter one of your store's business names or addresses. If results from Google appear, the key is working.

5. Select **Cancel** to close the dialog without adding a store.

## Troubleshooting

### The search returns no results

**Cause.** The key was mistyped, or it is restricted in Google Cloud so that the Places API cannot use it.

**Fix.** Check the key's API restrictions in Google Cloud, save it again and retry. See [Adding a store finds nothing in Google Places](https://personalisationhub.com/support-centre/troubleshooting/adding-a-store-finds-nothing-in-google-places/).
