Registering a device gives it a display name, a store and a display type, and moves it from **Unassigned Devices** to **Assigned Devices**. From that moment it plays the display type's default playlist. Registration takes about 1 minute per device.

## Before you begin

- An HQ Admin account with permission to manage displays and devices.
- Digital signage is enabled for the organisation and for the store. See [Enable digital signage](https://personalisationhub.com/support-centre/digital-signage/enable-digital-signage/).
- A display type exists for the screen's orientation and resolution. See [Create a display type and playlist](https://personalisationhub.com/support-centre/digital-signage/create-a-display-type-and-playlist/).
- The device is powered on, connected to your platform domain and showing a registration code. Note the code, or the device's Asset ID or serial number.

## Steps

1. In the left navigation, select **Displays & Devices**.
2. Select the **Unassigned Devices** tab. Each waiting device is listed with its **Registration Code**, **Asset ID**, **Device ID**, **Device Make** and **Device Model**.
3. Find the device whose **Registration Code** matches the code on the screen. If the code is not visible, match on **Asset ID** instead.
4. Next to that device, select **Register Display**.
5. Enter a **Display Name** that describes the screen's position in the store, for example `Branch Entrance`. The Asset ID is filled in by default; replace it.
6. Choose the **Store/Location**.
7. Choose the **Display Type** that matches the screen, for example *Landscape* or *Portrait*.
8. Select **Register Display** to confirm.

> **Note:** Check the orientation before you confirm. A landscape screen registered as a portrait type plays the wrong playlist and shows creative at the wrong resolution.

## Verify it worked

The device now appears on the **Assigned Devices** tab with its display name, store and type, a green **Status** and the display type's playlist in the **Active Playlist** column. Within a few moments the screen starts playing the campaigns on that playlist.

## Troubleshooting

### The device is not listed under Unassigned Devices

**Cause.** The device has not connected to the platform, or digital signage is not enabled for the store.

**Fix.** Confirm the device is online and pointed at your platform domain, and that the store's **Enabled Features** tab has **Digital Signage** turned on.

### The display is registered but shows nothing

**Cause.** The display type's playlist has no active campaigns.
