# Create a display type and playlist

> Add a display type for a screen orientation and resolution; the platform creates its default playlist for every display of that type.

A display type groups screens with the same orientation and resolution, and each display type has a default playlist that decides which campaigns its displays play. Create one display type for every distinct kind of screen in your network before you register devices. Allow about 2 minutes per type.

## Before you begin

- An HQ Admin account with the Admin role.
- Digital signage is enabled. See [Enable digital signage](https://personalisationhub.com/support-centre/digital-signage/enable-digital-signage/).
- The resolution (width x height in pixels) and orientation of the screens, for example 1920 x 1080 landscape or 1080 x 1920 portrait.

## Steps

1. In the left navigation, select **Displays & Devices**.
2. At the top right, select **Manage Display Types**. The list shows each type's **Touch Point**, **Name**, **Display Resolution (W x H)** and **Default Playlist(s)**.
3. Select **Add Display Type**.
4. Enter a descriptive **Name**, for example `Entrance-Landscape`.
5. Enter the display resolution as width and height, matching the screens this type is for.
6. Add a description if it helps others choose the right type.
7. Save the display type. The platform creates a default playlist named after it (for example *Entrance-Landscape Playlist*) and opens it.
8. Review the playlist and add or order the campaigns that should play by default on this type.

## Verify it worked

The new type appears in the **Manage Display Types** list with its resolution and a **Default Playlist(s)** entry. When you register a device, the type is available in the **Display Type** list.
